Doing Better with Batteries
The EDF Grid Scale Battery Project is one of the largest batteries in the UK, and is expected to go live in Q2 of 2021. A 50MW grid-scale battery will connect to National Grid’s electricity transmission network, and will ultimately support the installation of a private wire network to supply rapid electric vehicle charging sites in the local area. Grid-scale batteries are a critical part of the programme to decarbonise the UK's electricity system and accelerate a Net Zero future, enabling greater use of low carbon electricity from wind and sun.
